Why should say 'No' to heavy food stuff ?

Hello Readers and My Dear Patients,

Today again we discuss about the diet; you might noticed in my previous blogs whenever i suggest the diet for a patient or a particular condition i used to suggest to avoid the heavy food stuff.
Here we look into the details.

First of all let me explain what is happening in our body when our metabolism is irregular.

When we feel the symptoms like, heaviness of the body, aches and pains, mild swelling on the joints, puffiness of face, chillness, tastelessness or bitterness in mouth, head ache, feverish, loss of appetite, cough, phlegm accumulation in the chest or head region, morning or evening rise of temperature in any or more conditions explained above will have the low digestive power as an associated symptom.

According to Ayurvedic view; in the above said conditions the ‘kapha dosha’ or ‘vatha dosha’ will be deranged and the ‘ pitha dosha’  will be less.

That means the fire element in the body became feeble and wind and water elements aggravated.

When the fire element or ‘pitha dosha’ will be less in such stage the digestion will be low due to the lack of fire energy.

Ayurveda texts the fire enegry is called as ‘jataragni’.

Here digesting the food, elimination of waste through sweat, urine and stools, absorption of fine product these process will be sluggish.

On top of it if we take heavy food stuff like;meat, fish, diary products, oily deep fried items, junk food, cold items, sweets etc will make the condition worse.

Not only that there is chance for developing an internal inflammatory condition all over the body which will aggravate the symptoms of the respective diseases.

And another fact is that with a low digestive power the light potent herbal concoctions won’t absorb properly.

So we should avoid taking heavy food stuff and we should prefer everything light, easily digestible and should be well cooked.

I would like to add one more word – there is a myth that is we should not take the non-vegetarian food along with the herbal concoctions,i hope the above clarification is enough to clear the confusion.

Thank you for Reading and sharing my blogs and please be the part of spreading Ayurveda.

Importance to Avoid Wind aggravating food stuff in Daily Diet.

Hello my Readers and Patients,

When  ever i recommending the diet for different conditions there is some common factors in many of those menu.

Usually i suggest to avoid things which is windy stuff, for example all the root tubers except carrots, lentils especially yellow Dal, green peas, ground nut etc.

When we take these items generally we getting symptoms like bloating, burping, belching, chest burn, flatulence, constipation, piles problems etc.

As these food items are of wind dominant items and they gives the above said signs and symptoms.

And when we take the wind aggravating food stuff it causes the aggravation of the wind element in the body.

When the wind element aggravates in the body it causing the Aches and Pains,Insomnia,Constipation,Disturbs the digestive power irregularly.

It may lead to most of the diseased conditions too.
According to Ayurveda science the wind element has got the major role in human body and life.

The functions of the balanced wind element are as follows; enthusiasm, breathing, movements of the limbs, controls the excretory system, controls the metabolism, controls the proper functioning of the five sense organs etc.

And the aggravated wind element in the human body creates the following conditions; emaciation of the body, blackish discoloration, desire towards the hot, shivering, distension of the stomach, constipation, weakness of the body and mind, insomnia, low perception of five sense organs, blabbering, giddiness, looks poor etc.

Not only that Ayurveda texts says that generally 80 types manifestations of diseases in the human body is due to aggravated wind element.

From the above said factors you can understand the importance of balanced wind element and how much serious will be the aggravated wind condition.

When the wind imbalances it hits in any manner on the body.

So we must seriously take into consideration of keeping the balanced wind.

The best way is to avoid the wind aggravating factors from our daily life.

So go back to the top of this blog read again and print on the mind the diet which aggravates wind element or the “vatha dosha” in Sanskrit term.

Here we explained about the diet only there are many things in our daily life styles and routines which aggravates the wind element.

We will discuss in coming blog posts.

How the Water in take work on Obesity

Hello Readers and My Dear Patients,

We discussed about the common causes for the obesity in the last blog.

Today i just want to give you a very simple tip told in Ayurveda texts for controlling the over weight.

One of the major ayurveda text ‘Ashtangahrudayam’ says, take 300 – 500 ml water just before every meal, who all want to reduce your body weight.

While you taking the water before the meal,it will dilute the Digestive enzymes and acid secretions which help to control the digestion hence resulting the control of appetite, digestion and absorption.

It will make marked changes, you try it out for next 90 days and see the difference.

One more thing after drinking the water your stomach will be full so you cant eat much.

Normally you have to take 8 glasses (2ltrs) water minimum, you can increase to 3 or 4 liters per day.

It will help to control the wrinkling of the skin when you reduce your body mass.

Proper water intake will help to keep up the skin tone also.

It will help the proper functioning of your urinary system, reduce the chances for Urinary Tract Infections, formation of urinary stones, help to drain out the waste elements from the body through urine and sweat.

Meaning of Ashtavaidya

Hello Readers,
Nowadays the word ‘ayurveda’ is getting very popular around the world. The ‘ayur’ and ‘veda’ are two Sanskrit words which means ‘ayur’ is life and ‘veda’ means the science. Ayurveda the science of life explained in ancient Indian philosophy more than 5000 years ago itself. It was the only solution for the health issues during those period. Lately different health science spread ed in different parts of the world in different period of time, but we can see the close similarity with ayurvedic principles.
In modern surgery texts says father of surgery is ‘Sushrutha’ who lived in India. History says most of the Ancient rulers gave food and support for ayurveda physicians those days and many are appointed as king’s personnel physicians, they stayed in king’s Palace.

In Kerala eight selected family physicians are titled as ‘Ashtavaidyas’ and they were stayed for treating the King and his family members. These eight families are reputed physicians of those period, were renowned ,well versed and respected by the entire people of the country. Their next generations are still practicing in Kerala.

Pregnancy and Child Birth

Pregnancy and Child Birth
When a girl reaching puberty she should follow the ayurvedic regiments it will help to keep away the gynecological disorders and also it will help to have a normal conception, pregnancy and deliver a healthy Baby.
In ayurveda it is very well explained the routines to follow from conception to delivery period. During her first pregnancy normally will have a lot of anxiety regarding the growth of the baby about the position in the uterus, how to walk, how to lay down, what all have to eat, what all the items should avoid etc. All those information narrated in detail in ayurveda texts years back.
The food, rest, sleep, hygiene, dress code, regular consultation all these have its own importance during the pregnancy period. The complete healthy mind, body, satisfaction and happiness of the couple will affect the Baby.
Ayurveda says the end of winter season is the best time to get pregnant, because the delivery time will be ideal weather. For getting a healthy Baby we should plan and follow the diet and lifestyle accordingly can add the natural medication too even before conception. At the time of conception the mother should be very healthy, 21- 25 years of age will be most suitable age for the first pregnancy. Before 21st year the conception will have more chances for miscarriages, preterm labor, intrauterine growth retardation, lac of breast milk, above all they won’t be mentally prepared for a healthy pregnancy before this age.
Ayurveda teaches very well about all these and how to manage these conditions etc in the basic ayurveda texts like 'ashtanga hrudaya, charaka samhita and sushrutha samhita' etc.
Pregnancy:
The most appropriate time for the conception will be from 8th day to 20th day from starting date of menstruation. The primary symptoms of pregnancy are; nausea, delay in menstruation date, vomiting, excess salivation in mouth, tiredness, enlargement of breasts, frequent tendency for passing urine, short temperament, desire towards certain food items etc..
During the first trimester there is chance for slight bleeding, complete bed rest needed during this stage.
Normal duration of pregnancy will be about 40 weeks. 6th week onward will begin to form the head and body in the uterus. 7th week hand and legs will form,8th week onward heart beat will start. During the second trimester the mother can feel the movement of baby in the womb. It is called quickening. 13th week we can identify the sex. 16th week all the organs will be formed. 20th week mother can feel the movements of the limbs in the womb.
During the third trimester,28th week all the organs and limbs formed very well. Even if the premature delivery happens at seventh month the baby can survive with utmost care. 32nd week the baby will be about 1.5 kg weight. On the 36th week the baby will be full grown and weighing about 2.5 kg to 3 kg weight.  32nd week onward baby will lay head down. 40th week will be full term and delivery will happen.

Ayurveda texts 'Ashtanga hrudayam','charaka samhita' and 'sushruth samitha' narrated about the conception, pregnancy, child birth, diet, lifestyle, medication, hygiene, exercises, sleep, rest, how to manage the complications, postpartum care etc very well about 5000 years ago itself.

The difference in the principles of Modern medicine and Ayurveda.

Hello Readers,

The difference in the principles of Modern medicine and Ayurveda.

Ayurveda stands for the prevention and maintenance of the Health as well as to treat the disease condition of a person.

And also there is parallel branches like 'vruksha ayurveda' and 'mruga ayurveda' in order to treat the plants and the animals respectively.

The preventive and maintenance methods of 'ayurveda' coming under the branch called ‘swasthavrutham’ and treating the disease conditions under the ‘athura vrutham’
'Swasthavrutham' explains about when to wake up,how to do the morning ablutions, oil application, exercises, bath, how to behave, how to live in the community amicably and lead a peaceful life.

The diet and lifestyle according to the weather changes, precautions to be taken care during different seasons, how to treat the common ailments due to the influence of the seasonal changes etc.

Ayurveda says prevention is better than cure.

‘Athuravrutham’ explains the properties of the life forces, how it influence our body, different symptoms when it aggravates, decreases and how it will be when balanced.

How to treat the various stages of vitiation of the life forces.

The five fold cleansing methods etc. and also the benefits of cleansing treatment or ‘panchakarma’ therapy.

In ayurveda not treating the disease but treating the body, cleansing, rejuvenating and hence improving the immunity of a person.

It is not the treatment method but a lifestyle.

We have to practice it for life time, should know the dos and don’ts,different body type etc.

In modern medicine we find out the disease and name it.

And treating that particular disease condition with chemically derived combinations which gives fast relief but many cases gives rise to the side effects.

The modern medicine developed a lot in last few decades as it gives quick results.

In this fast moving life schedule many are forced to depend the modern system of medications.

The after effects neglected usually.

In a cardiac emergency or in a accident case such acute conditions the modern medicine can be done a lot.

But people turning to ayurveda for the chronic conditions like Rheumatic problems, skin diseases, asthmatic conditions,Diabetes,Piles,Kidney stones, infertility, acidity, migraine, sinus, allergies, gynecological disorders and many lifestyle problems can be sort out with ayurveda support.

Ayuveda says live harmony with the nature then the disease is no more.

During the ayurveda consultation the physician studies the nature of the body type, dominant life fores, imbalanced states etc from the symptoms.

For analyzing a patient ayurveda using tools like ‘darshana, sparshana and prashana’ means by seeing the patient,by touch and by asking questions to the patient.

Here is a brief about the difference in the views of ayurveda and modern medicine.

Thank you for reading and sharing my blog.

Brief about Yoga

Brief about Yoga

Yoga having two steps.
The first stage called “Hatayoga” and the higher stages known as “Rajayoga”.

The ‘Hatayoga’ very well explained in the text called ‘Hatayoga pradeepika’ written by Swami Swathmarama.

This text narrated in simple words which can easily grasp to anyone and accepted by all the ancient sages of India.

The stages of hatayoga like ‘yoga asanas’ and ‘pranayama’ etc. are getting universally accepted by this period.

Yoga explained by Swami Kuvalayananda as follows..

“Yoga has a complete message for the humanity,
It has a message for the human body,
It has a message for the human mind,
It has a message for the human soul.”

Yoga is the Science of Man; a philosophy of Life; a code of Conduct; and an Art of Living.

It represents a total approach to life and the entire range of its problems, physical, mental, moral, and spiritual.

It is for this reason that Yoga is capable of bringing about a complete transformation of man and sublimate him from the animal existence to the sublime heights of divinity.

May be, some day Yoga would succeed in making the world a better place to live in where a number of other methods failed.  (Justice H.L.Anand)
The  text Hatayoga pradeepika may be written between AD 1350 – 1550.

In ancient India yoga were in practice even decades before.

According to Max Muller,Yoga was practicing in India about 6000 years ago.

The yoga science first taught to Parvathi Devi by Lord Paramasiva. Hatayoga is the way to Raja yoga, says Swami Swatmarama.

The other ancient practitioners were ‘Matsyendra,Gorakshan etc who all blessed swami swatmarama to learn this science and wrote ‘hatayogapradeepika’.

The sorrows affecting the humanity is generally due to three reasons like Physical and Mental; External factors and animals; and the third category spiritual.

For the complete fulfillment of yoga one should practice with complete dedication and sincerity.

Then only we can attain the benefits of Yoga.

Hatayogi should not affected by any kind of physical and mental stress from the surroundings.

The yogi should live in a place where calm and quit, without any windows, the entry door should be very small, the floor should be pasted with cow dung, the floor should be leveled and equal, should be protected from insects and reptiles.

And should have a hall and a well near by.

When some one learn yoga,he should know only about yoga he should don't even think about any other matters.

It is said for the complete involvement in the science and hence achieve the ‘Liberation’.

The Yoga fails when over eating,Hard and stressful work, excess talk, unsafe contacts, wavering mind etc will lead to the failure of Yoga.

To the achievement of Yoga; one should have Enthusiasm,Courage,Adventurous, knowledge about the principles and philosophy, complete dedication and should stay away from the contact from the surroundings.

Thank you for Reading and Sharing.
