Influence of Sun and Moon on Human body

Ayurveda the science of life stands on the principles connected with the nature. It has got the history since the beginning of the universe.

Ayurveda says everything in this universe influenced by either sun or moon. So everything reacts with the heat or cold.

In Ashtangahrudaya an ancient Ayurveda text by Vagbhata Acharya says that all the plants in this universe are either of cold potency or of hot potency as they are growing under the sun or under the moon.

And in the human body the heat element is known as ‘pitha’ and the cold element in two forms they are ‘kapha’ and ‘vatha’.

The pitha element is fire energy, ‘vatha’ element is wind energy and kapha is water & earth energy.
That means the ‘pitha’ is fire element which is hot, light, flowing and in liquid nature too. These are the peculiar characteristics of the ‘pitha dosha’.

The functions of the pitha in the human body are digesting the food, keep up the body temperature, controls the blood etc. All the transformation in the human body is happening by the proper functioning of the ‘pitha dosha’.

The ‘vatha’ and ‘kapha’ both are of cold in nature influenced by the moon.

But the ‘vatha’ is made of wind element and the ‘kapha’ is of water and earth element.

In the human body the ‘vatha’ which represents the wind element is controls the proper functioning of the nervous system. All sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems functioning by the wind element which is the ‘vatha dosha’

And the ‘kapha dosha’ is controlled by the water element and earth element. Which controls the fluid balance in the body, nourishing the tissues, binding each and every cells in the body..

When treating the ailments, in case of the ailments raised by the cold principle will be treated by the plants which are of the hot potency. That is vatha and kapha diseases will be treated with hot potency medicines diet and lifestyle.

And the ailments due to vitiated fire element which is ‘pitha dosha’ will be treated with the cold potency medicines, diet and lifestyle.

This is how the sun and the moon related to the ailments affecting human body and the living plants in the universe according to Ayurveda science.
