Hello Readers and my Dear Patients,

How should  we Eat our food?

This question has got the relevance at this period of time.

In Ayurveda texts explain what should we eat,when we should eat,type of food and many more..

According to ayurveda we should eat the food in a calm and clean place,should take food in time.
Ayurveda science suggesting two meals in a day once early in the morning and the next one should be in the evening.

 And also giving the following directions to have the food.

Should not talk while eating,
Should not take faster,
Should not be very slow,
Should not sleep just after having food,
Should not walk,run ,climib steps or travel  just after food
And also tells that,we should smell the food,we have to touch and see the food.

 By the smell itself our digestive glands secrets the saliva,by touching and seeing we can identify the food the quality,quantity, whether it is suitable for our body or not etc.

We should not eat frequently,
Should not walk while eating,
Should not watch TV when eating.

We should pray before eating,should thank God for getting the food for our survival.

The quantity should be one third of our stomach volume in order to have one portion for the food,one portion for the water and one portion should be left for air.

We should chew the food very well in the mouth till it gets liquid form and the saliva will be mixed well. 

It will enhance the complete digestion and absorption of the food.

 Then we will be enjoy the food ,we should feel the taste hence we will have the satisfaction too.
When we chew the food and gives enough time in the mouth it will be better for the proper ‘dhathu parinama’.

Importance of Oil Bath

Hello Readers and My Dear Patients,

Today we will brief about the need of oil bath and how it has to do.

 It is a common confusion in most of the population especially among the youngsters.

In ayurveda text ‘Ashtanga hrudayam’ written by ‘vagbhatacharya’ mention in the chapter ‘Dinacharya’ (Daily routines) the oil bath (Abhyangam) should be performed daily in the morning. 

He explain in detail; a healthy person should wake up early in the morning and perform the morning ablution; brushing the teeth,oil application on the head and body,exercises,bathing etc.

The body oils should prescribe by an Ayurveda physician after analyzing his Body type,and Symptoms of illnesses,age,Prakruthi etc. 

The external oils should be matching with the medicines he taking internally.

The Prescribed oils mix together and warm,apply all over the body spread gently with out much pressure,oil should be lukewarm when applying. 

Can add some more quantity if you have some aches and pains or numbness on any part pf the body.

 Gently apply by repeated strokes from top to bottom in a rhythmic  long strokes.

 Oil application in upward direction is contraindicated. 

Can be continue for half an hour to one hour.

The oils will be absorbing through the pores of the skin,works on the 107 vital points and the channels connecting these points.

 It clears the blockages,promote better circulation,nerve supply,softens the skin,nourishes each and every tissues of the body,gives flexibility to the joints and over all rejuvenation of  the system.

In ‘ashtanga hrudayam’ tells the benefits of oil application are as follows;

Anti- aging,clears tiredness,balancing the wind element (vatha dosha),gives better look,nourishing the body,longevity of life,promote sound sleep,softens the skin and firmness of the muscles.

For the better results one has to  practice daily. Especially on head, Pinna of the ear and on the feet.

And also explained where it is contraindicated;

In case of excess phlegm in the body due to the weather change or due to the illnesses.

Just after the five fold cleansing therapy like vomiting and purging (Vamana and Virechana).

 In these conditions oil application should not be done.

Brief about Yoga - Special Edition


Hello Readers and My Dear Patients,

Yoga having two steps. The first stage called “Hatayoga” and the higher stages known as “Rajayoga”.

The ‘Hatayoga’ very well explained in the text called ‘Hatayoga pradeepika’ written by Swami Swathmarama. 

This text narrated in simple words which can easily grasp to anyone and accepted by all the ancient sages of India.

The stages of hatayoga like ‘yoga asanas’ and ‘pranayama’ etc. are getting universally accepted by this period.

Yoga explained by Swami Kuvalayananda as follows..

“Yoga has a complete message for the humanity,
It has a message for the human body,
It has a message for the human mind,
It has a message for the human soul".


Yoga is the Science of Man; a philosophy of Life; a code of Conduct; and an Art of Living.

 It represents a total approach to life and the entire range of its problems,physical,mental,moral,and spiritual.

 It is for this reason that Yoga is capable of bringing about a complete transformation of man and sublimate him from the animal existence to the sublime heights of divinity. 

May be, some day Yoga would succeed in making the world a better place to live in where a number of other methods failed.  (Justice H.L.Anand)

The  text Hatayoga pradeepika may be written between AD 1350 – 1550.

 In ancient India yoga were in practice even decades before. 

According to Max Muller,Yoga was practicing in India about 6000 years ago.

The yoga science first taught to Parvathi Devi by Lord Paramasiva.

 Hatayoga is the way to Raja yoga,says Swami Swatmarama.

 The other ancient practitioners were ‘Matsyendra,Gorakshan etc who all blessed swami swatmarama to learn this science and wrote ‘hatayogapradeepika’.

The sorrows affecting the humanity is generally due to three reasons like Physical and Mental; External factors and animals; and the third category spiritual.

For the complete fulfillment of yoga one should practice with complete dedication and sincerity. 
Then only we can attain the benefits of Yoga.

Hatayogi should not affected by any kind of physical and mental stress from the surroundings.

The yogi should live in a place where calm and quit,without any windows,the entry door should be very small,the floor should be pasted with cow dung,the floor should be leveled and equal,should be protected from insects and reptiles. 

And should have a hall and a well near by.
When some one learn yoga,he should know only about yoga he should don't even think about any other matters. 

It is said for the complete involvement in the science and hence achieve the ‘Liberation’.

The Yoga fails when over eating,Hard and stressful work,excess talk,unsafe contacts,wavering mind etc will lead to the failure of Yoga.


To the achievement of Yoga; one should have Enthusiasm,Courage,Adventurous,knowledge about the principles and philosophy,complete dedication and should stay away from the contact from the surroundings.

Benefits of Head oil Application; How and Why?

Hello Readers and my Dear Patients,

Many of my patients were keep on asking this question,how to apply the oil on head and why?

So here’s brief about itMy highly respectful ‘Guru’ Padmabooshan Sri.E.T.Narayanan Mooss used to prescribe the head oil application as follows;

Daily in the evening after 5pm,one teaspoon of prescribed head oil to be poured into an already heated ladle stir well, allow to cool and to be applied on the middle of the head,wait for half an hour then wiped of with a dry cloth.

 Head bath can be done in the morning twice in week with luke warm water.

This is the method he usually prescribe,he is suggesting that after the head oil application the head should not get sweat.

 So he advise to do it in the evening.

 Should not take bath but wipe of with dry cloth which leave a light smear of oil kept over night,it enhances the absorption of the oil for better results.

 But very rarely the patients get inflammation on cheeks when doing like this.

 In Such cases he allows the patient to wash the head daily and when  the patient suffering  psoriasis patches on the head or sever dandruff with itching and scaling.

According to the job and other situations many of the working class patients cant follow this method strictly.

 So i suggest my patients to apply and wash it with luke warm water either in the morning or evening.

 Head should not wash twice daily. Should not take head bath when  hot sun .

 Patients with Rheumatic conditions and inflammatory stage inside the body, better to reduce head bath to twice or thrice in a week.

Especially patients with Spondilitis,sinus problems,migraine,eye diseases,allergic asthma etc.

In the Ayurveda text ‘Ashtangahrudayam’ says that oil application should be practiced daily especially on the head region,ears and on the feet.

 Because the 107 vital points originates from the head to the soles ,when we apply the oil at the origin and at the end part, it reflects on the entire body

.And the head is considered as the ‘uthmangam’ (important center of nervous system),the proper functioning of hearing is happening by the activity of wind element which is seated at the ears and the feet is also the seat of wind element (vatha sthanam).

The basic property of oils are pacify the wind element or ‘vatha dosha’.

 So in order to protect and maintain the balanced wind element in the body oil application is very necessary on the Daily basis.

There is range of oils which prescribed by Ayurveda doctors depending upon the patient’s body type,age,gender,symptoms and illnesses.

A study on Honey and Cinnamon.

Today i just want to release a forwarded message of an unknown author  and expressing my sincere gratitude and courtesy for his great work – A study on Honey and Cinnamon.
It is found that a mix of honey and cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also note honey as very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without side effects . Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, when it is taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm even diabetic patients. Researched by western scientists:
HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, put it on toast instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol and could potentially save one from heart attack. Also, even if you have already had an attack studies show you could be kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of cinnamon honey strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.
ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken daily even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain -- and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.
BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder....who knew?
CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol-could be cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.
COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses, and it's delicious too!
UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also is said to clear stomach ulcers from its root.
GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.
IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles (where DNA is contained) to fight bacterial and viral diseases.
INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food is eaten relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals
INFLUENZA: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.
LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Use four teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of boiling water to make a tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans increase and even a 100 year old will start performing the chores of a 20-year-old.
RASPY OR SORE THROAT: When throat has a tickle or is raspy, take one tablespoon of honey and sip until gone. Repeat every three hours until throat is without symptoms.
PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it off the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.
SKIN INFECTIONS:Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin Infections.
WEIGHT LOSS:Daily in the morning one half hour before breakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.
FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.
BAD BREATH: People of South America, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water first thing in the morning so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.
HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing.

Ayurveda for the Humanity - Brief Outlook on its Origin.

Today we think a bit about the history of ayurveda,
the origin and spread of “ayurveda”- the science of life. 
‘Ayur’ means Life and ‘veda’ means Science.

Ayurveda- its a 5000 years plus old science. 

As old as the Vedic Period.

Ancient Indian philosophy says that the creator “Brahma” created the entire universe and all the living beings here in this earth. 

They lived very peacefully amicably and healthy too. 

Lately by the course of time, upon their bad deeds,pollution,bad qualities and actions, the man kind affected many kinds of ailments. 

Then the creator Brahma remembered and recollected from his mind,passed the science of life to heal the world  to the ancient sages of India.

They passed over generation by generation finally through Lord Indra,Aswins,Athreya then Susrutha and Charaka . 

They made their own treatises named “Sushrutha Samhitha” by Susruth acharya and “Charaka Samhitha” by Charaka Acharya.

 Sushrutha samhita more on to the surgical branch (Shalyathanthra) where as Charaka samhitha explained well about the Kayachikitsa(general medicine). 

Vagbhata Acharya who learned from both of these texts  made his text named Ashtanga hrudayam. 

Which dealt in eight branches.
 Vagbata Acharya traveled all over India to spread this science of life ,finally he reached  Kerala,lived here some time and died here.

 That may be one of the reason this science is still very sound in Kerala,south India.

And one more thing,all the herbs explained in the ancient texts are available here in plenty.

The Growth of the Newborn Baby...

Hello Readers and My Dear Patients,

The growth of a Baby begins just after the conception in the mother’s womb. 
During the second half of pregnancy and in the early childhood the growth will be so fast. And also up to the age of two the growth rate will be high. 
At the time of birth the body weight will be approximately 3 kg.
 During the first trimester the baby growing 25 – 30 gms daily. 
Then up to one year time 400
gms every month. 
On the 5th month the body weight will be about the double from the body weight at birth time.
The factors affecting the growth of the baby are the Nutrition,Infections and infestations of the parasites,trauma,changes in the weather,hereditary factors etc.

A healthy new born baby will have the following characteristics:
Body weight at time of birth will be 2.8kg to 3kg.
Length of the Baby will be about 50cms.
Circumference of the head 34-35cms.
Circumference of the chest 31–32 cms.

During the first 7 days body weight will be reducing up to 10% and in another 10 days time it will regain back.
The New born baby should cry louder it is a normal sign.
If the baby cries in low feeble noise it shows something wrong with the neurological conditions.
A healthy new born baby will sleep about 80% time.
The Normal Respiratory rate of a new born baby will be 35 – 40 per minute.
And normal heart beat will be 120 – 140 per minute.
Healthy new born baby will pass urine in minutes after the delivery.
 If not happen it shows something wrong.
The first stool will be hard and blackish. In 24 hrs time it has to come normally.
After the birth,in one hour time baby will start suck for milk and will cry for feeding in every 3-4 hours time.
A normal healthy newborn baby will start feeding naturally.
In the first month itself baby responding to sounds.
Second month if we smile bay will will respond same.
Third month,able to recognize the mother,trying to lift the head and hands often.
Fourth month,try to grab and hold articles we gave.
Fifth month,trying to sit with support.
Sixth month,making noises like “ma” “ba” etc..
Seventh month,holding things firmly.
Eighth month,sitting his own.
Ninth month,Trying to stand,making noises.
Tenth month,trying to walk with support.
Eleventh month,moving on the knee.

Twelfth month,can stand without support,trying to imitate others,playing and speak some words etc.
In Ayurveda texts dealt in detail about the pregnancy,child birth,growth of the baby,how to manage,complications and the stage by treatments as well.

Uses:
  It improves digestion.
 Enhancing the proper functioning of stomach and intestines.
 Using for Indigestion,fever and cough.

In case of indigestion,
 One teaspoon of ginger juice add half teaspoon of honey can be taken thrice daily before food.

In stomach ache,
One teaspoon ginger juice mix jagery (sharkara) can be taken frequently.

In cough with phlegm- dry ginger (chukku) powder mix with dried cumin seeds (jeerakam) and sugar, crush these three together and take half teaspoon frequently. 
It will ease the condition.

Today we will discuss about the Benefits of Ginger Coffee.

Benefits of Ginger coffee.

The Ingredients are;

Dry ginger,

Cumin seeds,

Pepper,

Tulsi Leaves,

Garlic,

and Jagery.

5 gms each add ¼ teaspoon of coffee powder boil with 300 ml water for 10 min, filter drink warm frequently gulp by gulp it will ease running nose,cough,chillness and fever,Promotes appetite and also will help to Boost the Immunity.



Diabetics Patients can avoid jaggery.

Fatty Liver - Brief Outlook

Hello Readers and My Dear Patients,


Today we will just look into the details of another common problem “Fatty Liver”.

Those days it is told fatty liver commonly seen only in drunkards but nowadays it is quiet common even in Non- Alcoholic people and Ladies too.

The Reasons may be the recent tendencies to have the Non-veg food stuff in excess quantity.

 Generally we take very rich food when compare to last decades.

 Oily,Deep fried,Red meet,Junk food,frequent eating,Diary products,Ghee,Butter,Cheese etc.

When we have the fatty and oily stuff in excess quantity Liver can’t purify the circulatory system completely. 

Hence it sediments in the long run and shows the early fatty changes then fatty liver leading into Cholelythiasis,Cirrhosis,Hepatomegaly etc.

 And even Carcinoma of the Liver.

 And they are more prone to get conditions like Jaundice,Hepatitis etc.

The solutions are Reduce or cut completely the Oily,diary,Fatty,Non- Veg food steps depending upon the severity of the condition.

Stay away from Alcohol.

Make sure enough exercises regularly. 

At least 20 to 30 min walk to sweat.

 Yoga,jogging,etc.. to burn the calories.

On top of that make sure having at least 400 to 600 gms of rich  fiber containing vegetables and fruits in a Day.

Simple Health Tip:
Take 20 gms of of tender leaf paste of Risinis Communis plant (Avannakku) mixed with pure Goats milk every morning in empty stomach.

Avoid take too much spicy,sour,salty and oily food stuff especially Pickles during these days.

In Ayurveda there is a lot of detailed treatment procedures explained very well to treat the various types of Liver disorders.

Gooseberry and Dry grapes also good for the above said conditions.
