Today we look into a very essential Ayurveda Herb.
Englsh Name: Pumblago Rosea
Family Name: Plumbaginacae
Sanskrit Name: Chithraka
Malayalam Name: Koduveli
It grows about 1.5 meters height. It grows all over Kerala. Three varities commonly seen - White,Red and Blue.
According to Ayurveda,
It is of 'kadu' Rasa, Laghu, Rooksha, Ushna and Katu Vipaka.
It Reduces Kapha, Vatha and aggravates the Pitha ( the Fire element)
Uses: ( to be taken with medical advise)
In case of Grahani Roga (Semi digested food substances evacuvated through watery stools) it can be used. 1 gm paste of the root mix with 100 ml butter milk to be taken before break fast and before dinner.
In case of vitiligo the root paste can be applied on the affected area externally.
In Prameha (Diabetes) prepare decoction with equal quantity of Tinospora Cordifolia (chitamruth), 25 ml each to be taken morning and evening before food.
koduveli should be purified before internal use.
The root paste can be used to break open the absces.
It is widely used in Ayurveda for the Indigestion, dyspepsia, Piles, anasarca, diarrhoea, vitiligo etc.
It is one of the major ingredient in many of the ayurveda medicines and oils.
The farming practises also should be encouraged as it is one of the inevitable ingradient in Ayurveda medicine manufacturing industry. So it will get a constant pricing without much fluctuations.
