Basic Concepts of "Panchakarma" Therapy.

According to “Ayurveda” the ancient science of life stands for attaining the “moksha” means liberation from the mind and body and fuse together with the eternal soul.

Every living body having the part of eternal soul, that's why the physical and mental growth is happening. In order to attain the liberation, our body and mind should be purified – Indian Philosophy says.
For purifying the the mind and body “ayurveda” suggests the following methods.

The purification treatments classified into two,
1.swasthavrutham (cleansing the body of a healthy person and rejuvenating the system hence maintaining the complete physical and mental health)
2.athuravrutham (treating the diseased state of a person and attaining the complete physical and mental health)

The treatment methods mainly classified into two, brumhanam and lankanam.
Brumhanam means which uplifts the growth rate, rejuvenates and nourishing the body.
Langhanam means which clears the blockages of body channels, promotes the circulation of lymph, blood, nerve functions and gives lightness to the body

The Lankhana chikitsa again subdivided into Cleansing,Pacifying and surgical correction.

The Cleansing treatments again subdivided into external and internal.
The external treatments are snehanam (Uzhichil, pizhichil, dhara etc.),Abyangam,Parishekam,Shirolepanam,Udwarthanam,Swedanam etc.
The internal methods are vamanam, virechanam, vasthi, nasyam, rakthamoksham. They are kown as the “panchakarma” chikitsa. They are Vomiting,Purging, medicated enema,Nasal application and blood letting.

After the five fold purification methods if the impure Dosha remains, then we do the pacifying treatments known as Samana chikitsa.
In some cases if the body not impure much or the Dosha not vitiated much, here we can apply the pacifying treatment alone will be enough.

In short, the treatments divided into two – cleansing and pacifying.
For the cleansing treatment we applying the five fold purification methods called “panchakarma therapy”.
They are as follows;
1.vamanam (medically induced vomiting)
2.Virechanam (medically induced Purging)
3.Vasthi (medicated enema)
4.Nasyam (Medicinal application through nostrils)
5. Rakthamoksham (draining out the impure blood)

And for the Pacifying treatment methods are fasting, diet adjustment, lifestyle adjustments, exercises, expose to wind, expose to sun light. Herbal medications and external oil treatments depending upon the conditions and severity of the illnesses.
