 Benefits of Curd (Yogurt)


Ayurveda Properties as follows


Rasam: Amlam

Vipakam: Amlam

Gunam: Guru

Veeryam: Ushnam


Actions & Benefits:


Curd causes Constipation / loose bowel


Reduces the Vatha Dhosha (The Wind element in the body)


Helps to enhance & induce the taste buds


Promotes Digestive power,Strength, fat, Phlegm, sperm quality in males etc.


Increases the Inflamation in the body


Should not use during the feverish conditions, Running Nose, Urine retention and kidney disorders.


Should not use Curd in warm and hot weather.


Curd should not be taken before the well formed or in semi formed stage. It may cause Skin ailments, Feverish conditions and Anaemia.


Curd should not be taken regularly.

It is desirable to take along with honey, sugar, green gram, ghee or gooseberry.

These are the properties of the Curd explained in Ayurveda Text Ashtanga Hrudayam by Vagbhatacharya.


According to modern view,

Yogurt comes from milk so it contains several essential nutrients like calcium,vitamin B2, vitamin B12, Potassium and Magnesium.

It contains good live bacterias which improves the proper gut activity which helps to treat an upset stomach.


Yogurt is effective in boosting immunity.


It is good for the Skin and Bones.


It is loaded with Vitamin D and Calcium.
